News:June 24, 2003
Discovered that the ISM-PMI data was available as a web page again, not just a .PDF file.
Updated the ISMPMI file upto May 2003.
News:February, 2003
MegaQuote, for the TSX, now removes a " J" tag, from the company name, if it exists.
News:January, 2003
Made a small error trap, to the Canadian Earnings importer, to catch double quote characters in a company name.
Made a way to sustitute tickers, for those tickers which you want to enter data, but the source
uses a ticker with no stated class or if you want to change classes. For instance, if the source
choses to send data for the "CHM" ticker which has no stated class, you can substitute "CHM.B",
which is the non-voting class ticker that the normal investor buys. This function MUST be updated
by the user, manually, of course.
News:December, 2002
The main Canadian MegaQuote now auto-adds the group number for trust units.
News:September, 2002
Maintained the Canadian MegaQuote importer, to automatically set the markets properly, after changes
made to exchange names.
News:July, 2002
Updated documentation for my currency (Euro) converter. Now includes all 12 original conversion
rates. Information is copied from official Euro web site. European Yahoo sites still have
historical data with no conversions into Euros and just using AmiBroker's split function will
distort volume values for the adjusted dates, so this program still is a useful tool. (wink)
If there is any interest, I will make an Amiga version that converts single stocks, since (by now)
databases should already be completely converted, except for histories of newly added tickers
with old uncoverted data.
Created a new REBOL data collector, for US earnings from a new source. This site's pages are
designed well, which should help when extracting data. An ARexx importer should follow within
the next few days.
Started rewriting the main TSX quote and info importer, to account for the new layout of the TSX.
It is working, but needs much refining, including using fund quotes, to return to the original's
functionality.
Updated the American ISM PMI data with the latest data. Copy this file directly into your database's
directory.
News:June, 2002
Made a data collector for TSX company information pages. It uses a list produced from another
program which cyles through a database looking for missing information.
Bug fixed the importer of Canadian Ivey School of Business index data. All indices get updated
data with each import.
Updated the American ISM PMI data with the latest data and web page references to it (the data was
up-to-date, but the references were stale). Copy this file directly into your database's
directory.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's symbol has been changed from TSE to TSX. DalleySuite programs will
start to reflect the new name, as they are updated.
News:April, 2002
Updated the check.r REBOL program. Minor bug fix.
Updated a script that imports Canadian earnings data, to handle a minor data format change.
Many changes occured at the Toronto Stock Exchange. The new initials for it will be the TSX.
Their site was overhauled and changed drastically, and not necessarily for the better. Some
index quotes are now completely useless, as far as acquiring them for data is concerned, since
the data is only available in a graphic format.
REBOL scripts to acquire the data from the new TSX site and another new data source now work. If
nothing else, the new data source is needed to fill in the missing TSX index data and to get other
supporting information that is now presented in a different format.
Updated the ISM PMI data with the latest data. Copy the file directly into your database's
directory.
News:January, 2002
Made a data exporter for all quotes of one day. The format is compatible with the DalleySuite's
CSV importer, for Yahoo's multiple quote requests. This allows for easily and (relatively)
quickly correcting date errors, after Saving bad data.
An updated .ISMPMI (ex .PMI) AmiBroker data file was uploaded to this site.
Made another Yahoo data collector, this time for intraday Canadian quotes, since TD Bank shut down
the Canada Trust quote server. The quote server used by TD is of no value to AmiBroker using
Canadian data, since there are conflicts between two very different types of stocks. The quote
server refused to acknowledge that there is a problem with non-standard tickers. If the conflicts
persist, I won't support the Quotes.com quote server, for Canadian quotes.
Yahoo does not use standard tickers for Canadian quotes, either, therefore, lots of ticker
translations will be necessary before the data can be entered. (Using standard tickers is
important, to avoid ticker translations or conflicts, since I use more than one data source,
whenever possible. Non-standard tickers are such a waste of time and effort, making many quote
servers pointless to support.)
News:November, 2001
Made a small update to the check.r script, to allow a smarter read of the top data directory and
filtering for name searches. Otherwise, many changes to the REBOL data collectors were made to
make them better for distribution to other users.
News:September, 2001
Although no-one has asked for this, but, since I am now using some files transfered to an Amiga
from a PC, Amiga scripts will be updated to handle the different line endings properly. If you
require a specific script to do this immediately, please contact me.
Made one importer to create data files for all 6 Ivey Business School Canadian indices.
News:August, 2001
Updated the US intra-day sheet importer, to account for an unreliable date. After trying, for years,
to convince the data source that the page does not always reflect the data's date, they still refuse
to fix the problem. The user must now enter the date manually.
News:July, 2001
Created a new importer for US earnings data.
Updated US history importer to account for changes at the source.
Updated: the .PMI data file was replaced with one that is up-to-date. The PMI data importer script
was also updated with a few minor bug fixes.
News: May, 2001
Announcement: I now have an IBM clone.
Whew! This one was a long time in coming. I finally wrote a REBOL data collector, to get the short
company info pages, for all of the TSE. This will save me an incredible amount of time filling in
the hundreds of files for all of the companies for which I have ignored doing this, until now.
This will help prepare my main Amiga database, to migrate it to the PC, but there is much to do
before anything like that happens permanently.
News: April, 2001
Announcement: another of my US data sources has shut down its free quote server. The old Security
APL (bought by Check Free Investment Services) quote server was one of the original web quote
servers and was the first one I used, in early 1997. It will be sorely missed, for it had data on
US & Canadian stocks no other quote server covered. If you still need a similar service, better
than Yahoo's, please make some of your favourite suggestions for new US/Canadian support.
An ARexx importer was made to create .PMI, an AmiBroker data file of the US's Purchasing Managers Index official monthly data. Numbers like the
PMI can be used in trading systems.
News: March, 2001
Updated a US earnings importer to report an incomplete form, and updated a US history importer
to define the company name properly (parsing prefixed an extra character).
Announcement: one of my US data sources is shutting down its free public portfolio system, by May
2001 (I could not get them to work now). This is no real big deal, since I have other better, less
limited intraday sources. Even though I haven't used their site for portfolios for quite some time
(their public portfolios were only available after market hours and they had less than helpful
customer service people), it is still a loss of a data source.
News: January, 2001
The TSE importer was updated to reflect a few changes made at the data source and to import
the capitalised version of the company name.
News: October-November, 2000
I have been working on making use of some recently added features to AmiBroker. This has taken
more time than I had hoped (but not more than expected) because I had to apply lots of research
to it, too. The good news is that I am also making my experience at doing this available as a
user's guide or tutorial for setting up AmiBroker, to do more efficient & more focused trade
searches.
This information is being made available, initially, only to registered DalleySuite users.
If they want to read it in its current, unfinished state, they should
contact me now. I am making it available this way to
solicit feedback (new suggestions, mistakes, missing material, etc.), for quality control and
other improvements, so that anyone can properly implement this important change, the first time.
Afterward, this project will be openned to anyone.
News: September, 2000
Most US DalleySuite programs and documentation were updated or improved!
The update was e-mailed to all registered users.
The format of the main Canadian data source for histories was changed, but still only go back to
1996, and the format is cleaned up a bit. The new version is able to handle very long histories.
News: July, 2000
Nearly all US DalleySuite programs were recently updated or improved!
US Earnings Importer #1:
Made a major update to account for changes in format, at the source.
Improved this importer with greater accuracy at figuring out the fiscal year, from data that does
not include it! It also works properly with data that does not have a complete year's worth of
data. Tested using about 700 US earnings reports - try entering *that* amount of data manually and
correctly! The AmiBroker market setting for new tickers will now be set to your US number (if
broker.markets is set properly).
Remember, short company descriptions can also be saved from this data, to be used with
Profiler.
US Price Quotes
Would you like to track *all* of the S & P 500, the S & P 100 and the NASDAQ 100, the DJIA, DJTA & the
DJUA? Now you can, even intra-day! A new US importer will import all quotes, quickly and easily.
Since the data source does not supply the OPEN price or index quotes, this data should be used in
conjunction with another quote server which does supply the OPEN price, such as those included in
the US DalleySuite. Since the quotes are in common fractions, an external programming language
must be used (at least with the Amiga version). A REBOL robot was also made to acquire
these data sheeets.
US History Importer:
Made a small update to account for changes in format, at the source.
US Earnings Importer #2:
Made a small update to account for changes in format, at the source.
US Single/Portfolio Quote Importers
Made numerous changes to most importers. Repaired code, in one, which dealt with common fractions.
Rebuilt US portfolio importer, for 80-quote portfolios. This importer has not worked since the
quote server stopped supplying portfolio quotes in decimals. As far as I can tell, the whole page
just disappeared! [grrr]
News: June 8, 2000
US Earnings Importer #1:
Changed the market setting to look for the US market number in broker.markets,
rather than use a fixed setting in the script
Finished code to import the full company address
News: April 19, 2000
Updated the Vancouver importer for company data for the new format and data of the CDNX exchange.
Importer now picks out the country and enters this data into the COUNTRY gadget.
Changed the final report to better summarize its actions.
News: April 11, 2000
Released the Multiple Moving Averages indicator, in AFL.
News: March 19, 2000
The configuration method for Profiler was changed, from editing a config file,
to using a file requester. This only needs to be done once. Updates or repairs can be
made using a text editor.
Profiler will now return a failed path, if a profile was not found. Either the
path was incorrect or a profile does not exist. This will help the user to make
sure Profiler is configured properly.
Searching for some profile databases failed, if they were not numbered
sequentially. Fixed.
Cycle Database was improved, by making it much more strict when resolving
markets. An error trap call was missing, and the final feedback panel now
reports the number of stocks that were processed.
UnlockAnyLock was renamed to UnlockGUI.
Documentation for UnlockGUI was created; the readme for Cycle Database was
transformed into a Guide. A Support document loader was made, to read all
Guides in the Support drawer. Missing or misconfigured document icons were
either created or repaired.
News: March, 2000
The Canadian MegaQuote importer was updated to handle a major change to the data format.
The main daily importer for Athens was updated to handle many changes to the data format. All
known errors (to date) in the data, such as missing headers or bad data lines, are handled
safely. If the config file cannot be found, the notice returns the failed path.
A new REBOL spider or robot was created to collect US quotes, while the main
data source is unaccessible.
names.abrx (version 2.01) now has an easier way of organising a pair of
header and data strings. With this design, matching headers with data is done
by changing just one assign in the program. Making your own header/data pairs is
easy, too.
An example of broker.groups was uploaded to this site, to allow discussion
of its design. Check my mail list message, in early March, for details.
Cycle.DB.abrx Cycle.Database was updated to use the new "markets" system.
More programs, such as data importers, will also benefit from this experience.
News: February, 2000
Profiler was updated to handle the new 256 "market" system in AmiBroker 3.2x.
The version number was incremented to 2.00.
Work on updating this site has begun. Check out the US DalleySuite description.
Feedback is always welcome.
News: January 27, 2000
A new history importer has been added to the US and Canadian DalleySuites.
It was created to support low priced, small cap stocks not supported by other
data sources.
Some of the other US programs and the documentation have been updated or
improved.
News: November 29, 1999
The web site is being changed. One big change is that the demo is being
removed, for the following reasons:
The main reason is that it failed completely at its main purpose - to
illicit useful feedback from demo users, so that we could all benefit.
Not one idea or suggestion was made, by anyone, in over two years!
Another reason the demo is being removed is that the Canadian exchanges
are going through a major re-organisation and, therefore, the code would
have to be updated.
The current code I use is vastely different from the demo's and I feel it
would now give an unfair comparison to the latest version.
All importer Suites are still available for registrations and more are
being written; there just isn't going to be a demo, under these
circumstances.
News: September 1999
A basic MegaQuote importer for Mumbai is working, thereby starting an
Indian DalleySuite.
News: July 16, 1999
The new Greek Suite is working, but more work is necessary. So far,
two importers, for two different data files, are started. One works with
ticker symbols in Greek text, the other uses Latin character equivalents.
More details will be released, as this Suite develops, on the Details page.
News: July 8, 1999
Copies of the main AmiBroker release and last update were uploaded to my
support site, adding to the number of choices for faster downloads than
from the Polish site.
News & Updates: January 10-13, 1999
The Euro converter was updated to use a cut-off date to stop converting.
Other important changes were made, too, including bug fixes, so read the
new docs.
News: January 7, 1999
An AmiBroker currency converter was created, on request, for people wanting to use Euros.
This program will revalue, up or down, the whole database, in one operation.
This converter is also useful to anyone else who needs to revalue their database,
due to any other currency changes.
News & Updates: January 1999
Happy New Year!
Anyone using the DalleySuite demo should check the computer's date and
adjust it for any old data from 1998 you still have not entered yet. (The
full date is not available in the data.) Remember, the Amiga becomes
unstable if you don't reboot after changing the date/time to an earlier
time frame.
The "World of AmiBroker Support" web site was completely redesigned in
December! Please visit. A FAQ page has been started, and more T/A links
have been added.
Version 4 of the demo is now available, on request. Documentation is not yet
finished, but if you used version 3, you know how to use these. See the web
site for more details.
The TSE importers have been improved, making them smarter and more robust.
They now import instrument names (if available) or company names (if not) and
share numbers, even if they did not trade recently. This speeds up database
maintenance, for all TSE and CDN stocks.
News & Updates: December 1998
November was a very productive month - six brand new importers, and many
updates to most other programs!
The web site is completely redesigned!
NEW CODE:
All appropriate programs (almost all importers, including the demo) will employ
a new search technique and parsing code. This results in a much faster
operation - any future speed increases will be negligible.
This change has one notable side-effect: currently, there must be only one
quote or portfolio per file, which mainly affects text browser users.
VERSION 4.0 DEMO:
All 3 Canada Trust importers were completely rewritten, in preparation for an
Aminet release. Compared to the old demo, all are 25% faster and do more
quality control work, and with few other visible changes.
An all new CT.ASCII importer was created to handle text exports from both text
or GUI browsers, so it currently requires one quote per file. This replaces
the CT.text importer.
The CT.InstaQuote importer was improved to handle portfolios.
Together, with the improved CT.HTML importer, they will comprise a completely
new demo!
If anyone wants to use them without up-to-date documentation, please contact
me now. (If you are used to the old ones, you can handle these, but text browser
users have to deal with frames, now.) The new demo is not yet available
otherwise.
3 NEW TSE IMPORTERS:
Three new importers were created for Toronto Stock Exchange data for three
reasons: to efficiently update the number of shares issued for any Toronto
stock; to prepare for the first GUI InstaQuote importer; to prepare to import
data for the complete Canadian Dealing Network (Toronto's Over-The-Counter
market). Of course, they import a complete quote with an OPEN price, company
name and also act as another redundant, free data source.
TSE.ASCII - allows delayed importation of TSE data - uses ASCII files
TSE.InstaQuoteG - the first DalleySuite importer using a graphical browser!
It does the same job as its siblings, only it does not use text files or terminal. It
currently requires a registered AWeb and no more than one AMIBROKER.# port,
since a system to control 3rd-party access to multiple databases also needs
designing.
TSE.InstaQuoteT - same as above, only it requires Term
TSE importers are included only in registered Canadian Suites.
PORTUGAL:
By request, a MegaQuote importer for Portugal has been started. The free data's
format is real nasty, so it will take some time to develop.
Anyone else interested in using Portugese stock data?
News & Updates: November 1998
All major DalleySuite programs will be released in executable form with
the help of Rexecute, instead of ExecRexx. This should increase the ease
in making importers and distributions, and slightly increase the quality
of programming.
Registered users will get updates, and the new demo will be released, as
soon as I start using Rexecute and the docs are finished. (Weird Science
has QUICK delivery service, by the way!)
All appropriate programs (excluding InstaQuote importers) have been
updated to allow more than one AmiBroker database open concurrently. This
will allow correct data flow to/from the proper database.
Another US/Canadian text importer was created to allow import of text
files from non-LYNX Internet connections, such as text exports from
GUI browsers. Both ASCII importers now import from unlimited, multiquote
files.
Also, this non-portfolio US/Canadian server's importers were all updated to
import data from the Alberta exchange and COATS (Toronto's over-the-counter
market).
News & Updates: October 1998
All appropriate programs are being updated to allow more than one
AmiBroker database to be open at the same time. This will allow correct
im/exportation of data to/from the proper database.
Registered users will get current updates.
Older News Items:
An updated example portfolio, for use with the DalleySuite demo, is
available now.
Data for the Star's fall Stock challenge has been finalized for the current contest.
Monday Toronto Star newspapers will have contest updates, or go to
TorStar.
The Australian importer has been greatly improved, including some of the
most advanced features and lots of missing-file error checking. It will
be ready for release shortly, once the docs are updated.
Version 2.71 of AmiBroker is available now! Install AmiBroker's demo
and try using my demo to see what this is all about.
Since this version can import historical data from your expensive, already
out-of-date CDs in MetaStock's format, you will appreciate my importers
of daily data and up-to-date histories even more! My free
Internet sources can take US histories back well over 20 years, today!
All importers are being revised to take advantage of new AmiBroker features,
including the import of the
full name of companies. This alone can save you hours of manual work!
New importers to support the complete Philippine, Australian and Italian
stock exchanges are working!
Thanks go to Terry Chadban and Mortillaro Rosario for their kind
help and explanations.
These importers have new features to make them smarter, more robust and easier
to use, including a config
system to set whether all or only some data gets imported, and all importers
now use a file requester.
